Prosecutor: Atlantic County Dealer Arrested In Fatal Cocaine-Fentanyl Overdose

A 42-year-old man from Atlantic County has been detained in connection with the fatal drug overdose of a teenage father, authorities said.

Freddie W.. Smith of Vineland was charged with first-degree strict liability for a drug induced death, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner said.

On Friday, a judge granted the state's motion to detain Smith, Tyner said.

On March 11, Smith is accused of selling a fatal combination of cocaine and fentanyl to Anthony Armitage, Jr. of Weymouth. according to Tyner.

Smith was being held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

The investigation was led by the New Jersey State Police. 

Assistant Prosecutor Allison L. Eiselen is handling the case.
